Guide Review - Burton Custom Split 165cm SnowboardLeave it to Burton to take a cool idea, put some serious thought behind it, and produce an optimal backcountry setup. Burton's split boards let you ski up backcountry ascents like a telemark skier, only better. The width of the skis (with skins underneath) provide excellent grip, and the relatively shorter length lets you maneuver easily along traverses. Best of all, when you get to the top just clip the two skis back together in the shape of a snowboard, and ride down! I found the Burton Split snowboard design to be fairly easy to use and very effective. The binding plates are simple to remove and reattach for a free-heel ski setup. And when it is in snowboard mode, it is as solid as any regular board -- you don't feel the split at all. |
