Definition: The Snurfer was one of the earliest forms of a snowboard, created by Sherman Poppen in 1965. It consisted of a snowboard-like deck without metal edges, and a rope attached to the nose for steering and stability. It is widely credited with inspiring Jake Burton to start his company, Burton Snowboards.
