Definition: A snowcat is a tracked vehicle that appears similar to a bulldozer. It is used both for over-snow travel as well as to prepare and refresh ski and snowboard resort trails. Most snowcats utilize a variety of different implements on the back to break up ice and smooth out the snow, leaving a characteristic "corduroy" pattern in their wake. The front of most snowcats features a plow blade, which is used to push snow back towards the middle of the trail at the end of the day. Most ski and snowboard resorts possess a number of these vehicles.
