The Bottom Line
Snowboarders looking for absolute power and support from their boots need look no further than the Burton Driver X. By far the most stout, stiffest boot in Burton's lineup, the Driver X only requires riders to consider turning before carrying out orders. Solid all-around construction means the boot is built to last, but also means it takes a few days to break-in properly before the true benefits of the boot can be experienced.
Pros
- The stiffest, most supportive boot in the Burton lineup.
- J-Bar adjustable heel-hold system locks your foot in place.
- Aggressive rubber ice spikes on sole provide all-around solid footing.
Cons
- The stiffest boot in the Burton lineup - may be too stiff for some riders.
- Speedzone laces require a trip to the shop for replacement.
- Molded EVA footbed is a joke - custom footbeds are a must here.
Description
- Like stiff boots? You'll love the Driver X. This boot serves one purpose - to allow you to go fast and do your thing.
- The Speedzone lacing system allows you to cinch the boots down tight in a jiffy, but durability remains suspect.
- An aggressively lugged sole means you'll be able to hike the pipe endlessly without worry.
Guide Review - Burton Driver X Snowboard Boots
Burton rates the support (basically the stiffness) of their boots on a scale of 1 to 10, with their average high-end boot clocking in somewhere around a 7. The Driver X is rated a 10. That's right...10, as in this is the stiffest, baddest boot in Burton's lineup. Lightweights and the sensitive-foot crowd need not apply. If, on the other hand, you're looking for lightning-fast response at freeway speeds, the Driver X is exactly what you've been looking for.
The speedzone lacing system quickly and easily cinches the boot to your foot, but be aware that a broken lace is all but impossible to replace on your own.
