The Bottom Line
The Tailsaver is a simple, affordable piece of protective equipment that every snowboarder should own. Although the company website says the product is targeted at beginners and park & pipe riders, even advanced snowboarders can benefit from having their tailbone protected during the occasional fall. As a side benefit, the Tailsaver also keeps your backside warm and dry, regardless of how much time you spend sitting in the snow.
Pros
- Lightweight
- Comfortable
- Affordable
Cons
- Lack of plastic shell means hard falls still hurt somewhat
- Currently tough to find in stores
- Less effective the lower your pants sag
Description

- Lightweight foam construction means the Tailsaver is both unobtrusive and easy to stash in your gear bag.
Guide Review - The Tailsaver Tailbone Protector for Snowboarders
After testing the Tailsaver myself, I have to say I'm a huge fan! As a snowboard instructor, it's fair to say I fall less than a beginner, but snowboarding is still a "contact sport" in my eyes. For those occasional falls, the Tailsaver is there to cushion the blow. Made from a lightweight foam material with two plastic clips that attach to the waist of your pants (on the inside), it's easy to forget you're even wearing the Tailsaver - until you lose a heelside edge on Eastern ice. Even without falling, however, the Tailsaver offers a benefit or two, mainly by insulating your body from the snow (or cold chairlift seats).
