New Zealand Season Set to Begin

From Christopher Del Sole, About.com GuideJune 14, 2010

As the North American snowboard season wraps up for all but a lucky few (those of you who ride Snowbird, Mammoth, Mt. Hood, and Whistler/Blackcomb), the snowboard industry looks to the south - way south, as in the Southern Hemisphere. Treble Cone, located in Lake Wanaka, New Zealand, is slated to drop the ropes for the season on June 24th, and the resort is offering a pretty cool treat to freeriders that plan on being in attendance.

For the first time ever, The AirBag will makes its debut in New Zealand. What's The AirBag, you ask? The AirBag is perhaps the most revolutionary training and safety device to ever hit the freestyle snowboarding world. Plainly put, it's a giant airbag - roughly 33 feet wide by 45 feet long - that riders can land on without fear of serious injury. This device will likely open up a whole new world to recreational riders, allowing them to practice moves they could previously only dream of attempting!

According to the resort, anyone age 8 and up will be able to hit The AirBag, which will be open from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. on the resort's opening day.
