It's the Winter X Games, Part Deux! New this year, Winter X Games Europe are being held from March 10th through the 12th, high up in the Alps in Tignes, France. This event looks to continue the battles of the last two months, which began at Winter X 14 in Aspen back in January before being rekindled at the Winter Olympics in Vancouver late last month.
It's interesting to note not all the usual snowboarding events will be represented - Men's and Women's superpipe, and slopestyle are in, but there will be no boardercross (or snowboard cross, as the IOC refers to it). This means we'll get to see a number of the big name riders - Olympic Champion Torah Bright and Winter X Gold medalist Gretchen Bleiler come to mind immediately, along with guys like Louie Vito and Olympic Bronze medalist Scotty Lago - but there will be no Seth Wescott or Lindsey Jacobellis.
As the first time the Winter X Games have officially headed overseas, it will be interesting to see how receptive both the athletes and the fans are to this format, especially coming only a week or so before the vaunted U.S. Open of Snowboarding, which is held annually at Stratton Mountain Resort in Vermont.
