Snowboarding, snow, and the beach are three things rarely mentioned in the same breath. Having spent some time at the Cape Cod National Seashore during the winter, I can attest to the fact that even with snow, the beach is no place to be hanging out in January. In May, on the other hand, "the Beach" at Colorado's Arapahoe Basin is the place to be!
A-Basin's Beach is actually the Early Riser parking lot, which directly abuts three lower mountain lifts. What passes for great parking mid-season turns into the tailgate party to end all tailgate parties come springtime. The warmer weather and added hours of sunshine attract hordes of hardcore skiers, riders, and party-types to the area - so much so that the resort will allow you to reserve one of six parking spots for a mere C-Note (that's $100 to the Queen's English crowd). Two cars can fit in the reserved space, and the resort also provides a picnic table!
For the ultimate in springtime ski-country parties, the Beach at Arapahoe Basin is tough to beat. Along with Tuckerman Ravine back east, it's one of the spots to put on your must-visit list ASAP. A-Basin typically stays open into June, so you still have time to make it this season, but if not, make a note to check out the scene next year!
