Keep Busy This Summer

Friday May 16, 2008

With the season just about over for most of us, the question of what to do during the summer often comes up. Having endured many snowless summers myself, I've developed a routine of sorts that keeps snowboarding fresh in my mind until the snow begins to fall again.

Before I store my snowboards for the summer, I apply a thick coat of protective wax to both the base and edges. This helps prevent the base from drying out and keeps the edges from rusting.

With that done, I move on to cross-training. Anything that keeps your fitness level up will do; bicycling, inline skating, running, hiking, rock climbing, and even playing basketball. All these activities help keep your muscles toned and your reflexes sharp.

The other thing I find myself doing a lot of over the summer months is shopping for new gear and clothing. Leftover product from the season can often be had for far less than retail during the summer months, so now is the time to pick up that new board or those waterproof snowboard pants you've been eyeing. Adding to your collection of gear, clothing and accessories is always easier when the items are on sale!

Whatever you do to keep yourself occupied during these next several months, remember one thing - the snow is coming...the snow is coming...the snow is coming!
